As a veteran in the motorcycle industry, Buell’s foray into the world of e-bikes with the Fuell brand has already seen impressive offerings, from the urban-friendly Flluid e-bike to the cyberpunk fantasy motorcycle Fllow. Delving further into the electric segment, FUELL’s latest electric bike is a mind-bending body-bending wonder. Designed to cater to both city commuters and outdoor enthusiasts, the Folld-1 e-bike blends cutting-edge technology with a robust design, setting new benchmarks in the folding e-bike segment.

The e-bike’s highlight is the fact that it folds in half, making it much more convenient to carry around and travel with. The Folld-1 relies on a unibody magnesium alloy chassis, which also conceals the bike’s built-in battery. The use of magnesium alloy not only reduces the bike’s overall weight but also maximizes its durability. The folding design of the Folld-1 makes it a practical choice for urban dwellers who may have limited storage space. It can easily be folded and stored in small spaces or transported in a car trunk for outdoor adventures.

At the heart of the Folld-1 lies a powerful Bafang rear hub motor. This motor delivers a nominal output of 750 watts and 85 Nm of torque, allowing the bike to reach a top speed of 20 mph. Contrary to popular belief, these specs aren’t all about raw power; they also ensure a smooth ride across various terrains, from city streets to more challenging off-road paths. Compliant with European e-bike regulations, the Folld-1 also offers a version with a 250-watt motor limited to 25 kilometers per hour.

The battery is a core component of any electric vehicle, and the Folld-1 doesn’t disappoint in this regard. It’s equipped with a 720-watt-hour battery, boasting Samsung cells, which provide an impressive range of up to 70 miles on a single charge in the lowest assist setting. If you’re using full-assist at maximum speed, you can still enjoy a range of about 30 miles. The battery is removable, which adds a layer of convenience for charging.

Other notable features include a Shimano Altus 8-speed gearset, Tektro HD-E 350 hydraulic disc brakes, and a foldable rear rack capable of holding up to 22 pounds of gear. These components not only provide a reliable and safe riding experience but also enhance the bike’s utility​​​​. For those who prefer not to pedal, the Folld-1 comes with a convenient throttle control. This feature allows the rider to cruise effortlessly without pedaling, adding to the overall convenience and ease of use of the bike​.

The Folld-1 is currently priced at $2,495, with an introductory offer reducing it to $1,995. This pricing positions the Folld-1 as an affordable option in the e-bike market, undercutting even its non-folding Flluid e-bikes by a significant margin.

E-bikes are still a hot topic despite their battery safety being a looming concern since inception. The lithium batteries used in e-bikes are sensitive to high temperatures and we have seen cases where batteries have blown up leading to severe damage to the bike, in odd cases, even to the rider. Even though, there is no dearth of new e-bikes hitting the market. Latest in the ranks is the Pi-POP, which on the exterior is an average bike, but packs a lithium-free supercapacitor, that allows the bike to run only on the power the rider generates: no other source is needed.

Designed and developed by French manufacturer Pi-Pop, the Pi-POP e-bike is an electrically assisted bicycle, only first of its kind in the world. It makes riders negotiate all accessible trails without battery or recharging woes. Just ride on with the power you create!

Made in an aluminum frame with white and green colorway, the bike is readied for now only in a single size. Its integrated supercapacitor energy regeneration system recharges with the rider’s pedaling and braking. The Pi-POP e-bike regenerates power as the user pedals on a level road and kicks in the most power when the rider goes down a slope or while braking. This allows the rider to benefit from constantly renewed assistance, only that the most energy is consumed, rather than regenerated when riding uphill.

The bike remains within European standards and has been tailored to hit the maximum speed limit of 25mph. The Pi-POP achieves speeds up to 25mph only on renewed assistance pedaling. The e-bike is designed to restore most energy to the supercapacitor when the brakes are applied, so the regeneration of power is least when going uphill as opposed to coming downhill. The supercapacitor can store and release the energy to the bike almost ten times faster than normal lithium batteries making the idea of Pi-POP more effective and less cumbersome.

Of course, the Pi-POP is not made for off-road sites, it is an interesting everyday commuter, especially if you are looking for an e-bike with a difference. This one is different but it is only available in France (at the Pi-Pop factory in Loire River, Olivet) for now. In spite of the exclusivity, it is priced competitively against its compatriots in the traditional e-bike market. It comes for 2,450 euros (approximately $2,600).

Step aside smart electric bikes, as Suzuki has its eyes set on the future of mobility with an e-scooter/bike that can climb stairs. Yes, you read it right. The MOQBA is not another concept design rendered by a budding digital artist who wants to catch the eye of big automotive manufacturers with a functional design. Rather, it is a proposed next-generation mobility ride for those who face difficulty in mobility.

Not a two-wheeled wonder, the MOQBA rides on four independent legs with wheel extensions. So, can it be called an electric mecha? Yes, it can be categorized as a mini mecha for the unexpected future.

The e-scooter wants to redefine the complexion of urban scootering with enhanced stability and agility to overcome obstacles for all-terrain mobility. In the bike configuration, MOQBA gets a conventional saddle which can morph into supporting seating when climbing up the stairs or moving ahead in the walking configuration. The walking ride can be configured in three different modes depending on the needs courtesy of the base chassis with attachments. These are Chair, Standing and Stretcher – giving the rider maximum flexibility in any good or bad situation.

Suzuki believes the mobility vehicle could be the ultimate solution for places that are inaccessible to conventional transportation. Even more so in the event of a calamity like flood or landslides when normal road conditions turn ugly. Under the current proposed design, Suzuki envisions the MOQBA to be capable enough of hauling small cargo or doing the carrying tasks after the supermarket spree. Just imagine, your car turning into a porter for your groceries, climbing up the stairs to your apartment!

Hyundai also showed off its larger-than-life walking robot concept dubbed TIGER, but Suzuki’s quadruped concept has a better prospect in real-life conditions. The robotic concept was announced for the Japan Mobility Show exhibits along with other interesting automotive designs. Whether we’ll get to see a life-life prototype version of this cool quadruped robot at the event is still not clear.

Electric bikes are the present and long-standing future of sensible commuting in cities, there’s no denying the fact. While some e-bike designs fall right in sync with the trending styles, some can be a bit too radical for the masses.

The overall muscular stance of the e-bike makes it appealing to the young generation who are early adopters, and the compactness for easy storage is an important perk.

Electric bikes are paving the way for a new genre of campers that’s hard to pass. With every elapsing week, my laptop screen is graced with a new e-bike trailer, and even if I say I am a little enthusiastic about the growing culture, I cannot just click the flip. My fingers get down to business and the adventurer in me begins to scribble.

The newest promising development comes in the form of the CapsulBike, an autonomous e-bike trailer meticulously designed for extended cycling adventurers. Given the detail and perfection with which the CapsulBike is made, one can easily make out that the ingenious creation is a result of passion for travel trailers and the fascination for the convenience of e-bikes.

The brainchild of a carpenter turned inventor, Christophe La Cancellera – who loves designing trailers and wanted one to accompany his daily ride – the CapsulBike is doing rounds on YouTube. The trailer, introduced by a French company Tiny Vroum is an extension of the brand’s inclination on building compact towables. However, this compact marvel isn’t just any ordinary trailer; it is the first autonomous mini caravan to provide energy and drinking water solutions during electric bike adventures.

The CapsulBike is equipped with a functional kitchen, a bathroom with shower cubicle and a toilet, a heated single bed with memory foam mattress, interior lighting, turn signal lights, and more. The CapsulBike’s standout features are its rooftop solar panels and a battery that can recharge the electric bike and keep the trailer powered by facilitating extended journeys. The trailer has a rainwater collection and filtration system and makes provision for carbon monoxide detector and fire extinguisher as safety measures.

One of the CapsuleBike models features a rear hatch access, while another – probably the production model – has access through two side doors. Besides the accessibility, the two options are ideal in space and functionality. Stepping inside the CapsulBike reveals a mini world of convenience and comfort laid out with a sleeping area, a functional bathroom, and a kitchen contraption comprising a folding table, one-burner stove, and some storage.
